He has held adjunct faculty posts at London Metropolitan University, UK (Athens Campus), Kentucky University, USA (Athens Campus), New Haven University, USA (Athens Campus), Athens University of Economics and Business (Greece), University of Ioannina (Greece), University of Thessaly (Greece) and University of Peloponnese (Greece).

His research interests are focused on promotion management and marketing education. He is highly interested in research topics related to effectiveness and efficiency of sport sponsorship programs, educational techniques and objectives in marketing education and marketing ideology in the time. His works have mostly appeared in the following international academic journals: Journal of Global Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Targeting, Measurement and Analysis for Marketing, International Electronic Journal for Leadership in Learning, Journal of Business Case Studies and Journal of Critical Studies in Business & Society.

Dr. Spais is an academic member of the Research Unit of Marketing of the Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER). He serves as a regional editor (Continental Europe) of the International Electronic Journal for Leadership in Learning and as a member on the editorial boards of Journal of Promotion Management, Journal of Targeting, Measurement and Analysis for Marketing, International Research Journal Innovative Marketing, Asian Journal of Marketing and Journal of Business Case Studies while he is acting as an ad hoc reviewer for several international academic journals (such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Marketing Education, Journal of Euromarketing, Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences, International Journal of Non-profit and Voluntary Sector Marketing, Consumption, Markets and Culture, Journal of Global Academy of Marketing Science, Australasian Marketing Journal and elsewhere) and conferences (such as the EMAC). Since 2008, he serves as a mentor of the Academy of Marketing Science "Doctoral Student Mentor Program". Additionally, he works as a business consultant for small-medium sized profit and non-profit organizations. He is a member of the Academy of Marketing Science (USA), the European Marketing Academy, the Marketing Academy (UK), the Greek Marketing Academy and the Hellenic Institute of Marketing. He has edited a book titled Introduction to Technological Innovation Management: From Technology Strategy to the Development of Products and Services through Innovative Ideas (2007, Kritiki Publishing, Athens - Greece).
