ProfileProf. Kumar joined as faculty in the Finance & Accounting area of IIM Lucknow in May 2006. As his first assignment at IIM Lucknow he was in the executive committee of annual conference of All India Management Schools (AIMS) held at IIM Lucknow from August 25-27, 2006. At IIM Lucknow he teaches Financial Accounting and International Finance. His student feedback has been consistently high for the courses taught by him. Recently, Prof. Kumar was awarded with ‘Best Young Faculty Award' at International Business Summit & Research Conference, held at Amity International Business School Noida from February 21-23, 2007. He has coordinated and lectured extensively in MDPs for senior management professionals at IIM Lucknow. He was in selection panel for recruitment of Probationary Officers (POs) for SBI during 2007-08.
Before Joining the IIM Lucknow, Dr. Kumar was Deputy Director (Business Planning) and an Associate Professor at University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES). As Deputy Director (Business Planning), Dr. Kumar worked closely on the expansion project of UPES within India and abroad. At UPES he was also actively involved in developing and enactment of world-class HR practices in the university. At UPES he was also adjunct faculty at IIM Lucknow.
Earlier Dr. Kumar was Chairman (Research & PhD Program) and Associate Professor in area of Finance & Accounting at Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad, India. At IMT, he also held the position of Chairman of PGDBM (Part-Time Program). As a Chairman (Research & PhD program), he strengthened the PhD program of IMT and also built a conducive environment for research activities at IMT. He is also an approved research guide for guiding the Ph.D. scholars of Indra Prastha University, Delhi, India. Professor Kumar was also involved in the accreditation of distance learning program of IMT, which at that time had an enrollment of over 20,000 students.
Before joining IMT, he worked as Associate Professor at International School of Business and Media, Pune. Earlier, Professor Kumar was an Assistant Professor at Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies (KIAMS), Karnataka. At KIAMS he was faculty-in-charge of institute research & summer internships. He gave a new vision and direction to the institute research and summer internships. Professor Kumar encouraged the faculty research endeavours by introducing the system of fortnightly faculty research seminars. These seminars increased the number of faculty research publications at KIAMS. Professor Kumar brought academic rigour and seriousness to the entire process of summer internships by introducing the concept of faculty guide in addition to the company guide for the every summer trainee of KIAMS.
Prior to shifting to teaching, Professor Kumar worked as Project Officer with HARDICON, a technical consultancy jointly promoted by IDBI, IFCI and nationalized banks. At HARDICON, he worked on several consulting projects.
Professor Kumar did his Ph.D. in Finance from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, India. He has published research papers in journals of national and international repute like JOURNAL OF APPLIED FINANCE, VIKALPA, MANAGEMENT REVIEW, BOMBAY STOCK EXCHANGE REVIEW and INDIAN MANAGEMENT. Besides, he has contributed research papers in the edited volumes. He has also presented papers and chaired sessions at several international and national level professional conferences. He has also been reviewer of the research papers submitted for the journals and conferences. He is in the editorial boards of AIMS International Journal of Management (AIJM) and Arth Anvesan.
Research carried out by Professor Kumar has been acclaimed by the academia and industry alike. At COSMAR, a doctoral research paper annual meet conducted by Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Bangalore, his research paper was conferred with second best paper award in 2001. More recently, Prof. Kumar received ‘Best Academician Research Paper Award' for his paper titled, ‘An Empirical Investigation of Determinants of Going Public Decision of Indian Companies' at International Business Summit & Research Conference, held at Amity International Business School, Noida, during February 21-23, 2007. Earlier, he was also associated with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, where he received training in research and teaching. His research interests includes: Initial Public Offerings, Indian ADRs/GDRs, Venture Capital, Credit Ratings and Mergers & Acquisitions.
