Sunil started his professional career as Management Trainee in one of the largest public ltd. companies in India. Later he worked as a Senior Executive in Finance and as a Finance Manager for other large public companies where he headed the finance group and managed and implemented several projects. His academic career started in 1989 as a Lecturer in one of the top university management institutes in India. During 1992-1994 Sunil won four prestigious international scholarships including the Commonwealth Scholarship to study for PhD in the Manchester Business School, University of Manchester in the UK. After finishing PhD from Manchester in 1997, Sunil joined as a lecturer in Canterbury Business School in University of Kent. In 1998, he moved as a Lecturer in the Business School of the University of Birmingham and was later promoted as a Senior Lecturer. In 2002 he was appointed as the director of the MBA in International Banking and Finance Programme. Sunil became a professor of finance in 2004 when he moved to the Business School of the University of Hull. Since January 2006, Sunil is working as Professor of International Finance in School of Management of Cranfield University which is currently ranked 30th by Financial Times amongst the top 100 business schools worldwide. Globally, Cranfield is amongst only 18 top business schools with triple accreditations of AMBA, EQUIS, and AACSB. In the recently concluded Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), Cranfield is amongst the top 15 management schools in the UK with 25% of its academic staff rated as world class researchers.

Sunil has published extensively in top international journals such as Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting, Journal of Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, Global Finance Journal, Managerial and Decision Economics, International Review of Financial Analysis, Applied Financial Economics, Journal of Emerging Market Finance, Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting, China Accounting and Finance Review. Sunil has presented research papers in a number of prestigious international finance conferences including European Financial Management Annual Meetings, Multinational Finance Society, Global Finance Conference, etc.

He is serving on the editorial board of a new journal ‘Annals of Research in Financial Economics' and regularly referees research papers for many international journals including. The Financial Review, Corporate Governance: An International Review, Global Finance Journal, Applied Financial Economics, Journal of Comparative Economics, International Journal of Financial Services Management, International Economic Journal, etc. Sunil has successfully supervised four PhDs and is currently supervising three PhDs and two Executive Doctorate (DBA) students. His research interests include Financing, Investment and Corporate Governance Issues in Emerging Markets, International Portfolio Investments, Foreign Direct Investment, Market Efficiency, Market Microstructure, Economic Liberalisation and Stock Markets, Interaction between Macroeconomic Variables, Derivatives, and Stock Returns & Modelling of Returns and Volatility.

Sunil has a wide-ranging consulting experience in the area of corporate finance, investments and corporate governance. He has been advising the African Development Bank as a Financial Management expert in development of Country Governance Profiles for the Kingdom of Swaziland and Egypt. Last year, he finished a consultancy project on Credit and Political Risk Ratings for Atradius which is one of the largest European commercial insurance companies. Sunil is regularly invited to deliver lectures, seminars and workshops by many respected business schools in the UK and abroad. He has been invited by the BBC World Regional Service regularly as international finance expert and has given many interviews on the current economic crisis. His article titled ‘Passing the Parcel Game: A Simple Analysis of the current financial turmoil in the investment industry' has been very well received and is now published on the websites of many leading finance, banking and business networks.
