Mary Kelly

Mary Kelly is an Associate Professor in finance and insurance and Chair of Insurance at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada. Previously, she has taught at University of Calgary and worked as an actuary before entering academia. Dr. Kelly holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (Statistics) and a Master’s degree in Mathematics (Actuarial Science), both from the University of Waterloo and a doctorate in Commerce (Finance) from the University of British Columbia. She has completed the Canadian Risk Manager designation and is an active member of the American Risk and Insurance Association. In addition, she has also organized and taught in the Insurance Institute of Canada’s summer Insurance Education Workshop for teachers, sits on the Institute’s Academic Council and is involved in the redesign of the Institute’s FCIP program. She undertaken research projects for Manulife Financial and the Insurance Bureau of Canada and has sat as a board member on the local chapter of the Insurance Institute of Ontario.

Dr. Kelly's current research interests include automobile insurance in Canada, capital holdings of Canadian insurers, and the impact of regulation on the property/casualty insurance market. She has presented her research at various insurance, finance and actuarial science conferences. She has published in many practitioner and academic journals in the field of insurance.
