Joan Lawla
Head of School, School of Business Administration, University of Technology, Jamaica
Joan Lawla’s research interests include the areas of business ethics, small business management, entrepreneurship, and consumer behavior. Mrs. Lawla also has a strong interest in curriculum development. Mrs. Lawla is a volunteer member of the World Bank team of researchers who conduct research for the “Doing Business Survey.”
Her teaching interests are in the areas of marketing strategy, marketing research, consumer behavior and emerging areas of neuroscience in marketing and marketing ROI. Mrs Lawla has taught in these areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at University of Technology, Jamaica, University of the West Indies, Mona (MSB) and Jamaica Institute of Management( Utech/JIM Advanced School of Management)
Currently acting as the Head of School for the School of Business Administration, University of Technology, Jamaica, Joan Lawla has worked as the Program Director of the Marketing Division in the School as well as having responsibility for Research in the Faculty of Business & Management, through the Graduate Studies Research Unit. In addition to the main responsibility as Head of School , Mrs. Lawla is also responsible for the School's curriculum and has led its revision as well as the introduction of new courses of study to broaden the course offerings in the School.
Joan works as a consultant in the private sector in a number of industries in Jamaica including pharmaceutical industry, fast moving consumer goods category, retailing industry and the tourism industry. Her areas of specialization includes business plaaning, communication plan development as well as strategy development.
