Editorial

In the eleven years of Ukraine’s independence, its economy has undergone a radical transformation. Almost all of the directive mechanisms of the command economy have been replaced, and the foundations have been laid for the creation of a dynamic and versatile market economy. The economy’s corporate and private sectors are consolidating major strides in their development and institutionalization. National and international firms are adapting to the new Ukrainian market environment. This serves as a basis for the gradual balancing of demand and supply on the micro-level. One of the ways to consolidate the achievements of our country’s economic reforms is through science-based development, a premise that applies especially to the management of economic processes on all levels – from the macroeconomic level to the management of small businesses.

Under the command system science was estranged from the real economy. The level of implementation of scientific research was extremely low, hindering researchers from realizing their potential in practice and thus to contribute to the country’s economic development. A market economy requires the close cooperation of theoreticians and researchers with practitioners and other actors in the real economy, a collaboration that can only be realized with the most effective means of communications possible. In this instance, the vehicle for productive communications is the publication of scientific ideas in peer-reviewed Research Journals, as well as the widest possible distribution of such journals among those same researchers and practitioners.

That is the reason why scholars and researchers of the Sumy State University were given the task of creating an international research journal highlighting issues related to the management of economic processes from social, behavioral, physical, and biological science perspectives. The University faculty and administrators involved have successfully completed this task. The result of these efforts has become the new scientific publication before you, Problems & Perspectives in Management.

The Editorial Board includes leading economists and management specialists from eleven countries of the world. All of them occupy high positions in educational and research institutions. This makes it possible to anticipate that there will be a fruitful collaboration and cooperation between the founder of the journal – Sumy State University – and other leading educational and research institutions around the globe.
Nobel laureates and winners of other prestigious international awards in their fields have agreed to write for the journal. The journal’s cooperation with world-renown scholars will be key to the development of its reputation as a leading international forum for the exchange of ideas in management science and managerial economics, and in both the theory and practice of business administration.

It is our hope that this inaugural issue of the journal will, in fact, prove to be a vital new forum for dialogue, criticism, and analysis in these cross-disciplinary areas of scientific and economic thought. We invite you to join us in this endeavour.
