Relationships between demographic factors, job satisfaction, and intention to leave among women employees in Indonesia
Rizki Febriani , Siti Nurhasanah , Arif Rahman Hakim doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.21511/ppm.22(1).2024.01Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 1-12
Views: 1141 Downloads: 710 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯJob satisfaction is essential for improving company’s performance because the more satisfied employees are, the higher their work performance. The intention to leave has recently become a hot topic related to employees’ desire to leave the company. Such intentions can undoubtedly harm the company. This study aims to analyze the effect of demographic variables on employee job satisfaction and intention to leave. The sample includes 427 female employees in manufacturing companies in Indonesia. SEM-PLS with Smart-PLS software was used as the analysis method. Research findings show that demographic factors affect the intention to leave and job satisfaction. It was also found that demographic factors affect intention to leave, mediated by job satisfaction. Job satisfaction is essential in the relationship between demographic factors and employee intention to leave. This finding adds to existing insight that different demographic factors can affect employee turnover rates, such as high income, which can reduce employee intention to leave the company. Employee job satisfaction is subject to the influence of demographic factors, including age, with older employees generally expressing higher levels of job satisfaction.

An application of creative problem-solving approach in forming public management competencies
Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 13-24
Views: 523 Downloads: 180 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯModern bureaucratic competencies, such as creativity, innovative problem-solving, and critical thinking, have become essential in contemporary public management due to complex challenges in a wide range of areas, including the economy, social welfare, and the environment. This has led to a greater focus on developing these competencies, through innovative methods like creative problem-solving (CPS) in the training of public management specialists. The aim of this study is to identify specific competencies among public management professionals that can be cultivated through the CPS approach and to explore the critical conditions for its successful implementation. The analysis was conducted at the Military Academy of Lithuania, where CPS techniques have been consistently integrated into public management-related subjects for several years, forming a stable foundation for the in-depth investigation. First, the study examines Lithuania’s legal framework for public management and public management education to implement CPS. Second, a qualitative data analysis of open-ended feedback (n = 199) highlights practical application. The findings reveal that the Lithuanian legal context underscores the importance of fostering creativity and innovation among public managers. Furthermore, the practical integration of CPS into public management curricula promotes modern bureaucratic qualities such as teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, innovation, and leadership. However, effective CPS implementation requires additional curriculum time, a supportive and creative learning environment, and strong teacher and student commitment. These findings underscore CPS’s potential as a valuable tool for cultivating public management competencies.

Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 41-56
Views: 603 Downloads: 152 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯIn an economic environment marked by rapid change, characterized by factors such as globalization and increasing demands from stakeholders and clients, public institutions and state-owned enterprises have become significant players through their multiple interventions in providing public services to citizens and businesses, in implementing structuring projects for economic and social development, and in promoting investment. This paper aims to examine the correlation between human resource management and employee performance within Moroccan public institutions and state-owned enterprises to understand how these organizations should manage their human capital to enhance their performance. The sample consists of 67 top executives of Moroccan entities operating in various sectors. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire completed by the participants. Partial least squares (PLS) was used to estimate structural equation models and analyze causal relationships between variables. SmartPLS 4 software was employed for model analysis. The findings reveal a positive and significant impact of training, selective recruitment, digital transformation, and performance-based compensation on employee performance improvement. The results indicate that the T-values are 3.126, 2.870, 2.178, and 2.406, respectively. Regarding the Q² value, it stands at 0.899, confirming the model’s predictive capability. The GoF coefficient is 0.851, affirming the overall validity of the model. However, it was observed that there is no significant link between job security and performance, as the T-values did not exceed the threshold of 1.64. This study suggests adopting changes in HRM practices to enhance the organizational performance of public institutions and state-owned enterprises.

Challenges and opportunities in healthcare reforms in pre- and post-COVID-19 crisis: A case of Jordan
Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 80-93
Views: 431 Downloads: 71 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThe COVID-19 crisis presented devastating effects on global healthcare, and Jordan was no exception. During such unforeseen challenges, attention shifts to healthcare leadership and management. However, limited research explored the leadership adjustment in Jordanian hospitals during the pandemic. Therefore, this study examined the challenges and opportunities that arose alongside the outbreak of the pandemic in Jordanian hospitals from the leaders’ perspectives. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with healthcare managers in three Jordanian hospitals, focusing on three key areas: healthcare reform integration, the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on hospital performance and healthcare quality, and management practices to handle the pandemic. Interviews were transcribed and thematically analyzed. Eleven hospital managers in seven administrative positions were involved. Three thematic outcomes were noted regarding the integration of healthcare reforms into the Jordanian healthcare system: sources of reforms, challenges of reform integration, and timely integration of the reforms. Positive impacts of the crisis on the Jordanian hospitals’ performance and quality of healthcare service delivery, which are considered opportunities, resulted in three thematic outcomes: infection control protocol, staff education, and patient management. On the other hand, three thematic concepts emerged as challenges of the COVID-19 crisis: workload, stress and fatigue, and staff shortages. Lastly, this study noted three thematic outcomes regarding management practices adopted by the Jordanian healthcare systems to deal with the pandemic: staff training, monitoring, and social support.

Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 115-127
Views: 306 Downloads: 106 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThe objective of this study is to investigate the influence of business intelligence capabilities on firm performance, with a specific emphasis on the role of firm agility and the impact of knowledge-oriented leadership within this association. The paper used a quantitative approach using data from a sample of 237 participants randomly chosen from a pool of 34 high-tech companies in Jordan. The study included a diverse range of participants, including individuals occupying various professions, such as managers, supervisors, analysts, and other relevant positions. This broad sample was selected to provide a full comprehension of the influence of business intelligence capabilities on firm performance. This approach allowed for the inclusion of various organizational levels and views, therefore capturing a wide range of insights. The study used the partial least squares modeling technique to analyze cross-sectional data to investigate the proposed model. The findings of this analysis, with a statistically significant p-value of less than 0.05, elucidate that the capabilities of business intelligence exert a substantial influence on the agility of a firm, subsequently affecting the firm’s overall performance. Moreover, firm agility mediates the correlation between its business intelligence capabilities and firm performance. Additionally, knowledge-oriented leadership moderates the effect of business intelligence capabilities on firm agility.

Oleh Pasko , Li Zhang , Edward Markwei Martey , Tetyana Kuts , Linus Baka Joshua doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.21511/ppm.22(1).2024.12Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 128-146
Views: 363 Downloads: 98 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThis study aims to assess the intricate interplays between managerial ability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and firm value, focusing on 3,498 company-year observations sourced from the RANKINS CSR RATINGS and China Stock Market & Accounting Research (CSMAR) databases representing China’s Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2009 to 2018. Employing a rigorous sample selection process and utilizing data from reliable databases, the research employs a comprehensive methodology to explore the intricate corporate sustainability-related dynamics influencing organizational success and societal impact.
The findings reveal a compelling negative correlation between managerial ability and CSR performance, corroborating previous research and suggesting potential challenges in reconciling managerial competence with social responsibility priorities. Furthermore, this paper establishes a negative correlation between CSR and firm value, with managerial ability influencing the magnitude of this impact, underscoring the significance of managerial skills in moderating the relationship between CSR initiatives and overall corporate performance. Moreover, the study uncovers a robust positive correlation between managerial ability and firm value, emphasizing the pivotal role of adept leadership in achieving higher corporate valuation.
It provides valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and scholars, creating a conducive environment for well-informed decision-making. In the ever-changing corporate landscape, a deep understanding of these interconnections is essential to nurture business practices that are both sustainable and value-oriented.Acknowledgment

Views: 369 Downloads: 98 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯSustainable universities play a role in evaluating and reporting on sustainable practices in developing countries. The study aims to identify human capital’s impact on sustainable university performance by implementing sustainable human resource management (sustainable HRM) as a mediating variable. The paper uses a quantitative approach, with a sample of 140 employees consisting of lecturers and educational staff at Esa Unggul University, Jakarta, Indonesia. Data were collected using a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using structural equation modeling-partial least squares with SmartPLS 4.0 software. The results showed a positive and significant impact that was statistically proven by a direct impact of human capital and sustainable HRM on sustainable universities as well as an indirect impact of human capital on sustainable universities mediated by sustainable HRM. Furthermore, the results showed that the level of direct influence of human capital on sustainable universities has an influence value of 0.371, where the influence is categorized as weak. The level of indirect influence with sustainable HRM as a mediator between human capital and sustainable universities has an influence of 0.662 with a fairly strong/moderate influence. This proves that the role of sustainable HRM practices is an essential component in realizing a sustainable university. Empirical findings recommend increasing the capacity and quality of lecturers and education staff as the main component of university human capital to achieve sustainable higher education performance. Sustainable HRM practices need to be implemented thoughtfully by universities to improve performance from economic, environmental, and social aspects.

Data were collected from 397 employees working in twelve Jordanian banks. The SPSS software was used to analyze the data and test the hypotheses. The results show that adopting digital strategy dimensions explains 55.6% of the variance of competitive advantage dimensions. Data, quality, and flexibility explain 45.8%, 44.8%, and 47.3% of the variance of competitive advantage, respectively. Also, the results show a positive impact of digital strategy dimensions (technologies, data, human resources, and operations) on competitive advantage dimensions (quality, flexibility, and cost). Moreover, the results also show that employee satisfaction moderates and enhances the relationship between adopting the digital strategy and possessing competitive advantages. The study recommended that decision-makers in commercial banks pay attention to applying digital technology because it enhances the speed and quality of providing services to customers.

The paradox of independent board members and financial return of state-owned enterprises: Case of Lithuania
Donatas Voveris , Andrius Jaržemskis , Ieva Girdvainienė doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.21511/ppm.22(1).2024.18Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 205-217
Views: 230 Downloads: 75 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThe relationship between governance measures and company performance is a widely debated topic in economics, finance, and organizational analyses with diverse outcomes in the existing scholarly body of work. This study aims to examine the relationship between the share of independent members on the board and the financial return of state-owned enterprises. Lithuania was chosen as a setting for the research because the country has been successfully implementing ambitious corporate governance reforms in the public sector and thus is recognized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development for its efforts. Within the examined dataset of 27 Lithuanian state-owned enterprises spanning 2015 to 2021, there was a notable rise in the proportion of independent board members, ascending from 13% in 2015 to 61% in 2021. However, no statistically significant correlation is discerned between the share of independent board members and financial performance indicators, specifically return on assets (r (181) = –0.020, p > 0.05) and return on equity (r (181) = –0.104, p > 0.05). The quantitative results are complemented through the administration of semi-structured interviews with a subset of board members affiliated with these enterprises. The absence of a relationship between independent board members and the financial return is explained via a more significant influence of state decisions than the effect of a board. Therefore, the appointment of independent board members alone cannot be regarded as the sole guarantor of improvement in financial returns.

Views: 440 Downloads: 108 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯSupply chain management practices are always helpful for multinational enterprises in increasing their growth. However, there has always remained an open debate about which practices are helpful for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, this study has examined the influence of supply chain management practices on the performance of SMEs. Moreover, it has examined how the moderation of supply chain ecocentricity and innovation capabilities strengthens or weakens the relationship between supply chain management practices and SMEs’ performance. The quantitative study involved 352 SME managers as they can provide the relevant information and possess complete knowledge of management practices. The data were gathered via a questionnaire, and the responses were analyzed using IBM SPSS 28 and IBM AMOS. The results show that SMEs’ performance is linked to supply chain management practices (β = 0.544; P < .001), and this linkage is further strengthened by supply chain ecocentricity (R2 change = 0. 082***, F-Statistics = 47.18) and innovation capabilities (R2 change = 0.061***, F-Statistics = 39.74). SMEs can enhance their performance by efficiently incorporating supply chain management practices and developing innovation capabilities and supply chain ecocentricity.

How do commitment-based HRM practices and a developmental culture interact to foster open innovation in SMEs?
Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 231-243
Views: 316 Downloads: 54 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThis paper aims to bring new insights into the role of commitment-based human resource management practices in open innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises. Additionally, the goal is to enhance comprehension of the aforementioned interactions by considering the mediating effect of developmental culture. Data were collected from owners and managers of 131 small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the service and manufacturing sectors in Albania. The study employed a quantitative research instrument, namely online surveys. To yield results and extract figures, the study applied partial least squares-structural equation modeling, examining the interrelationships among constructs. The empirical results highlight the direct effects of commitment-based human resource management practices and developmental culture on open innovation. Specifically, the study reveals that commitment-based human resource management practices have a significant role in promoting open innovation (O = 0.598, t = 10.057, p = 0.000). Additionally, the findings indicate that developmental culture serves as a complementary factor by mediating the connection between commitment-based human resource management practices and open innovation (O = 0.136, t = 1.789, p = 0.037). This study draws the attention of business owners and strategy developers circumnavigating the Albanian small and medium-sized enterprises environment. Barring certain limitations, it enthralls their propensity toward innovation, aligning it with an enabling business culture.

Views: 703 Downloads: 160 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThe implementation of the home office has changed the organization of work not only during the pandemic but also permanently, so it is considered challenging to explore the effects on work processes and the value orientation of employees. This study aims to identify the employees’ subjective perceptions of work productivity, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of home office during each wave of the COVID-19 outbreak, by taking into account the views of each generational cohort. The paper analyzes the effects of the home office on employee productivity in Slovak firms and its impacts on private life. Descriptive statistical methods were used to process the data obtained by questionnaire survey, conducted in several phases from September 1, 2020, till August 20, 2022, on a sample of 1167 respondents reached by random selection. The questionnaire was distributed through social network sites and targeted at people who use information and communication technologies, which is a requirement of the home office. The hypothesis was verified using the chi-square test. Based on the survey results, workers who use home offices feel isolated and prefer a combined form of work; they lack social contact, which reflects negatively on their mental health. The combined form of work also significantly impacts the sustainability of work productivity. The study recommends that organizations ensure work-life balance, understanding the particular generations working within the home office.

The moderating role of intrinsic religiosity in the relationship of stressors and job performance: Evidence from Indonesia
Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 255-267
Views: 301 Downloads: 86 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯJob performance is the ability to complete work according to predetermined standards. Stressful conditions at work can make job performance worse. An individual’s intrinsic religiosity can weaken these stressful conditions. This study aims to empirically prove the influence of challenge and hindrance stressors on job performance and examine whether intrinsic religiosity can moderate this influence. This paper uses the method of administering online questionnaire surveys by distributing Google Form links to the eligible respondents without conducting the interview. It employs a non-probability sampling design with a purposive sampling method, in this case, judgment sampling. The criteria for selecting respondents are individuals who have the status of full-time employees and work in state-owned and private-owned organizations in the cities of Indonesia. This study proved all hypotheses. Higher challenge stressors result in higher job performance. At the same time, higher hindrance stressors result in lower job performance. Further, intrinsic religiosity weakens the positive influence of challenge stressors on job performance. Individuals who are always attached to God will use work as a means to please God. The characteristics of these individuals are having a positive mental attitude so that they are always ready and calm in facing various work situations and view work as a calling. Also, this study proves that the negative influence of hindrance stressors on job performance is weaker in people with intrinsic religiosity. Ambiguous job descriptions, conflicts, or excessive work are no longer burdensome.

Views: 820 Downloads: 277 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯCompanies are developing strategies to attract and retain talented workforce in an always more effervescent labor market. The ones that relate to attracting talents are usually referred to as employer branding, and the ones related to retaining talents are usually referred to as employee value propositions. This study aims to investigate the motivational factors in the employee value proposition model and suggest an extension of the common models. A questionnaire was elaborated to check the validity of the hypothetical model. The sample includes a large Swiss financial institution that decided to remain anonymous. 517 employees have provided valid observations; the multivariate analysis conducted under the lenses of structural equation modeling confirms the validity of the hypothetical model. In particular, the study illustrates that extrinsic (salary, benefits, career) and intrinsic (work environment, work purpose, and job strain) motivational factors must be considered in the employee value proposition model. The intrinsic motivational factors contribute slightly more than the extrinsic motivational factors; the salary factor contributes the most among the extrinsic motivation variables, and the working environment factor contributes the most among the intrinsic motivation variables. The elaborated model has practical application for corporations who want to govern their employee value proposition and align their employer branding identity. It extends the theoretical foundations to support further research in this domain.

Views: 294 Downloads: 69 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThe rapid growth of the information technology industry has spurred corporate process digitalization. This study aims to examine how the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology’s (UTAUT) major tenets – performance expectancy and effort expectancy – and trust affect managers’ acceptance of new e-fulfillment services. This study also considers Hofstede’s cultural dimension of long-term orientation as the major variable influencing management’s acceptance of the new fulfillment platform. This study employed a quantitative research methodology with a simple random sampling of 248 Indonesian Logistic Association members from various industries. The research finding shows that only effort expectancy does not significantly affect managers’ e-fulfillment platform usage. Both effort expectancy and performance expectancy have a significant impact on employee trust in using the new technology. In addition, performance expectancy, customer trust, and long-term orientation positively affect the managerial adoption of e-fulfillment services. The study also shows a full mediation effect of customer trust in the relationship of effort expectancy to managerial adoption and a partial mediation effect in the influence of performance expectancy into managerial adoption of electronic resources planning with trust as a mediating variable.

Views: 317 Downloads: 59 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThis quantitative study aims to determine the elements that influence the efficiency of village funds in terms of social and economic empowerment. Individualized solutions based on the demographics of the village, including financial support, business partners and markets, human resources, sociocultural ecology, and natural resources, are required for economic development. By collecting data from 179 village heads in South Papua province, Indonesia, this study determines that several elements substantially impact the economic empowerment of communities. However, these factors have not been fully optimized to attain economic independence of villages. With the assistance of regular support from the district government, most village heads are graduates who can effectively plan and implement programs. The distinctive qualities of a community are considered in sociocultural development programs. The development of natural resources and tourism are continuing processes that require market access and infrastructure improvement. Human resources are promising, and sociocultural initiatives align with community requirements. Therefore, addressing the problems associated with market access and resource development is vital. Village funds should promote the use of resources in a sustainable manner; however, there are still obstacles to engaging corporate land users, which calls for further investigation.

Views: 562 Downloads: 306 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯPentagon capital is a term used to describe the five essential forms of capital: human, social, financial, physical, and intellectual. These five forms of capital play a crucial role in improving the performance of women entrepreneurs. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of these five forms of capital on the performance of women entrepreneurs, both directly and indirectly, through the adoption of digital technology. The analysis was conducted in 38 regencies/cities located in East Java Province, Indonesia, and comprised 268 women entrepreneurs from various business sectors. Following this, the primary data source was collected through the distribution of questionnaires, and the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was utilized to assess both the direct and indirect effects of the observed capitals using SmartPLS 4.0 software. The results showed that only social capital had a direct and significant effect on the performance of women entrepreneurs. However, human, financial, physical, and intellectual capital were found to significantly affect the performance of entrepreneurs indirectly through the mediation of the adoption of digital technology. It is also expedient to acknowledge that among the observed variables, financial capital was found to be the most important (19%). These results offered practical understanding for women entrepreneurs on strategies to increase their business income and access loans from financial institutions and government assistance.

Differences in corporate social responsibility implementation between Slovak and Czech companies
Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 353-365
Views: 287 Downloads: 57 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯIn recent years, corporate social responsibility has emerged as a pivotal factor for corporations in cultivating a favorable public perception. Despite this, many companies remain uncertain about the integration and rationale behind incorporating it into their core business strategies. This study aims to discern dissimilarities in implementing corporate social responsibility initiatives between Slovak and Czech companies, addressing the triple bottom line framework. This approach is a metric for evaluating a company’s achievement across three dimensions: social, environmental, and economic. The study is predicated on a questionnaire survey conducted among a sample of 180 Slovak and 180 Czech companies operating as subsidiaries of multinational corporations as typical implementers of corporate social responsibility activities in emerging economies. Following the triple bottom line framework, three distinct sets of variables were formulated to account for social, environmental, and economic activities using the Mann-Whitney U Test to ascertain statistically significant disparities between Slovak and Czech companies. The findings indicate that the surveyed companies from monitored countries exhibited no notable distinctions in environmental endeavors. However, discrepancies were discerned in economic activities, specifically relating to post-sales or post-warranty customer services, which was significant with a small effect size (0.19). In social activities, significant differences were observed concerning adherence to the principle of equal opportunities in the workplace. Based on these outcomes, it is recommended that future investigations delve more extensively into the monitored parameters within the Visegrad countries.

Views: 321 Downloads: 91 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯOne of the leading indicators of how well an e-government system is being implemented is how much citizen acceptance of e-government has increased. Thus, this study looks at social and psychological traits and uncertainty avoidance as moderating factors to identify the factors influencing Indonesian citizens’ adoption of e-government. SEM-PLS was utilized for data analysis. An online survey with measurement questions tailored to 520 respondents was used to gather data for the proposed model’s quantitative validation. A purposive sampling approach based on self-selection was used in this study. The analysis findings show that citizens’ intents as end users of e-government systems are significantly and positively impacted by the influence of compatibility (β = 0.265; p < 0.05), relative advantage (β = 0.482; p < 0.05), and trust in e-government websites (β = 0.243; p < 0.05). On the other hand, complexity (β= –0.293; p < 0.05) significantly and negatively affects their intention to use the system. Additionally, the connection between relative advantage (β = 0.213; p < 0.05), complexity (β = 0.294; p < 0.05), compatibility (β = 0.275; p < 0.05), and propensity to use e-government was found to be moderated by uncertainty avoidance. Encouraging citizens to use e-government will aid the Indonesian government by increasing individuals’ experience with the system and potentially lowering their perception of its hazards.

This paper assesses Nepal’s industrial policies, emphasizing the need for improvements, export promotion, and human capital development while recognizing the importance of strategic planning and context-specific approaches for economic growth, stability, and development. The analytical and descriptive approaches have been applied to analyze the data by collecting secondary data sources that include official publications, which encompass 47 time series variables from 1974 to 2020. The findings provide mixed evidence for the economic impacts of liberalization, with exports and liberalization driving overall GDP growth. In contrast, other factors like economic openness, tourism, and their relationship with industrial GDP remain statistically insignificant. The paper indicates that remittances and investment have the most substantial impact on GDP, raising it by 1.86 and 1.21 units per unit increase, respectively. Exports have a moderate impact on industrial GDP (0.403 units). Export-oriented industries and tourism lack significant associations with either type of GDP. Liberalization significantly boosted both GDP and industrial GDP, with an increase of 179465.3 and 49595.62 units, respectively. Imports also jumped post-liberalization, driven by higher remittances as 1.215 units per unit increase. This study on industrial policies in developing economies, focusing on Nepal, adds valuable insights. The findings can ensure policymaking, boost economic growth, and strengthen Nepal’s industrial sector.

It uses secondary data from 1989/90 to 2021/22 collected from various economic surveys of the Ministry of Finance of Nepal. Descriptive and explanatory research designs are used in this study. The trace, max-eigen tests, and fully modified least square methods search the long-run co-integration and impact between response and predictor variables. Trace and max-eigen tests consistently point toward the long-run co-integration between dependent (gross domestic product) and independent (import, export, total trade, and foreign direct investment) variables. Exports and imports are found to be negative and statistically significant to explain Nepal’s economic growth. One unit increase in exports results in a 0.748 unit decrease in Nepal’s economic growth. Similarly, total trade volume and foreign direct investment positively impact economic growth. Each unit increase in foreign direct investment results in a 0.0036 unit increase in GDP in Nepal. Foreign trade has a multiplier effect on Nepal’s GDP growth. The 76.35 percent variation in economic growth depends upon total foreign trade volume, exports, imports, and foreign direct investment. To promote sustainable economic growth, policymakers should prioritize policies encouraging increased total foreign trade and foreign direct investment while carefully managing the potential negative impact of excessive reliance on import dynamics.

The paper aims to estimate the role of family as a social resilience driver in managing wartime challenges on a regional level. It used the online survey method based on Google Forms and online focus-group interviews in September-November 2022. Household members (1,089 respondents) of Kyiv, Lviv, Zakarpattia, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Dnipropetrovsk territorial communities were surveyed. Most respondents generally positively assess Ukraine’s prospects; 59% believe that the situation in the country will most likely improve. During war escalation, 67.2% of respondents waited for family support, and 48.8% helped their relatives, but relying on family support did not increase their safety expectations. In communities that did not increase their activity level in response to the war by one percentage point, the “feeling unsafe” responses increased by 1.8 percentage points, which means that an active civil position is also responsible for feeling safe (other things being equal) and increasing society’s resilience. At the same time, even in wartime, the indicators of social atomization are quite high, as 46.2% relied only on themselves and solved their problems independently, without anyone’s help. Therefore, developing family relations is one of the effective mechanisms for raising internal human resources to manage wartime challenges.

Views: 589 Downloads: 433 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯDeveloping a sustainable competitive advantage has emerged as a pivotal objective for organizations due to the dynamic and constantly evolving business environment, challenges modern organizations encounter, rapid market fluctuations, and intense competition. This study aims to examine the impact of strategic agility on sustainable competitive advantage and the mediating role of strategic renewal within an emerging economy such as Jordan. The study collected data from 217 executives holding senior and intermediate positions in telecommunications companies in Jordan. This paper utilized partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS4 software to test hypotheses and assess the measurement and structural models. According to the findings, strategic agility has a significant positive impact on sustainable competitive advantage (β = 0.590, t = 8.042, p ≤ 0.000) and high explanation power (R2 = 0.828), which means that 82.8% of the variance in sustainable competitive advantage has been explained by strategic agility and strategic renewal. Moreover, strategic renewal partially mediates the relationship between strategic agility and sustainable competitive advantage. In addition, the study revealed that the model’s predictive power was medium. This paper contributes to the body of knowledge and existing literature about the impact of strategy renewal and agility on sustainable competitive advantage in Jordanian telecommunications companies. Exploring the nexus of artificial intelligence in talent acquisition: Unravelling cost-benefit dynamics, seizing opportunities, and mitigating risks
Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 462-476
Views: 324 Downloads: 183 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThe rise in talent management complications led organizations to rely on the latest technologies to automate their routine HRM tasks through AI. This study proposed to examine fundamental aspects of AI in talent acquisition (cost-benefit, opportunities, and risk factors) from the context of strategic analysis and decision-making. 52 respondents from HRM and the information technology departments from fifteen large dairy enterprises, each with more than one thousand employees, were included in the focus group discussion. Both departments were included in the focus group discussion as they heavily employ AI in talent acquisition. The opinions were collected in multiple rounds based on the cost, benefit, opportunity, and risk criteria using the analytical hierarchy process, a multi-criteria decision-making framework. The findings demonstrated that most respondents opinioned AI supports talent acquisition with many opportunities (38.7%) that involve the identification of the best applicants (18.7%) and different benefits (33.2%) to the organization in the form of saving time and cost (16.1%) leading to higher efficacy. The study infers that the application of AI in HRM significantly contributes to talent acquisition, streamlining processes, improving efficiency, and enhancing decision-making. The study recommends that implementing AI in talent acquisition requires a strategic approach, and organizations need to consider factors such as data privacy, ethical use of AI, and ongoing training to ensure successful integration into their hiring processes. Additionally, regular monitoring and adjustments are essential to optimize the effectiveness of AI tools in talent acquisition.

Views: 181 Downloads: 43 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯMissed and unfinished nursing care in hospitals depends on the quality of human resources. This paper aims to analyze the influence of selected work characteristics on missing and incomplete nursing care in inpatient wards of Czech hospitals. The relationship between the rate of missed and unfinished nursing care and selected work characteristics was studied using the Czech version of the standardized questionnaire, the MISSCARE Survey. The study was conducted from September 26, 2021, to October 15, 2021. Controlled interviews with 1,205 nurses working in ward blocks in Czech hospitals were used. The research results showed statistically significant connections between selected work characteristics and missed and unfinished nursing care. Nurses with the highest level of education (Master, Ph.D.), nurses with specialized education, nurses with the lowest number of working hours (less than 30 hours per week), and nurses with the highest number of years of work experience (21 years and over) show a significantly lower rate of missed nursing care. Nurses from surgical departments, specialist nurses, and nurses with the highest education (Master, Ph.D.) report statistically significantly lower unfinished care levels. In contrast, nurses from regional/district hospitals, practical nurses/nursing assistants, and nurses with the lowest education (secondary school of nursing) report significantly higher unfinished nursing care levels. The information obtained can be used to improve nursing processes in the identified weak parts, strategic planning of nursing care, and sufficient personnel.

Tax governance in compliance: The role of motivational postures and behavioral intentions
Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 500-513
Views: 289 Downloads: 99 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯGovernments are working toward cultivating a culture of tax compliance, recognizing that taxpayers exhibit diverse motivations for fulfilling their tax obligations, resulting in varying levels of reported tax compliance. This paper aims to investigate behavioral intentions with a specific focus on resistance-cooperation motivational postures and their link with tax compliance (voluntary and enforced) and tax evasion between Slovene taxpayers (n = 390). Inter-item correlations next to descriptive statistical methods were calculated using the PLS-SEM approach to explore the motivational postures, tax compliance, and tax evasion characteristics. The survey has shown that most surveyed Slovene taxpayers tend to agree with motivational postures, voluntary tax compliance, and enforced tax compliance statements. The results indicate that motivational posture deference has positive links with both voluntary tax compliance (r = 0.692, p < 0.001) and enforced tax compliance (r = 0.253, p < 0.001), but a negative link with the attitude toward tax evasion (r = –0.404, p < 0.001). Conversely, motivational posture defiance exhibits a negative link with voluntary tax compliance (r = –0.149, p = 0.006) and a positive link with the attitude toward tax evasion (r = 0.229, p < 0.001). The link between defiance and enforced tax compliance is not statistically significant (r = 0.068, p = 0.379). The results indicate that tax authorities should avoid adopting an antagonistic climate and instead focus on fostering positive tax climates, specifically the service and confidence climates, when implementing tax communication strategies with taxpayers.

Views: 304 Downloads: 73 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯAcademic employees face declining working conditions that may reduce the level of commitment to resource-constrained public higher education institutions. The purpose of the study is to examine whether strong social interactions at work affect academic employee commitment amid a poor state of physical working conditions in under-resourced public higher education institutions. A cross-sectional survey obtained data from 63 academic employees across six faculties at a large, under-resourced public higher education institution located in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Academic employees taught many under-prepared students, primarily from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, using limited physical resources. The linear regression (r = –.0.52, CR = 3.21, p = < .001) results showed that stable social interactions were associated with high employee commitment in resource-constrained institutions. Academic employees remain highly committed to the institution despite the poor physical working conditions. The study extends the affective perspective by showing that employees build regular social interactions to remain highly committed and overlook limited access to physical workplace resources. Leaders ought to create regular social interaction opportunities between employees to foster high employee commitment amid inadequate physical working conditions.

Migration intentions of nurses and nursing students from Slovakia: A study on drivers
Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 534-548
Views: 296 Downloads: 80 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯNurses are an essential resource in health systems. However, the shortage of skilled nursing workforce is a global phenomenon with negative consequences – many factors, including individual, occupational, and socio-political aspects, influence nurse migration. Thus, the aim is to explore the migration intentions of nurses and nursing students, forcing them to seek work abroad.
An online survey was conducted among nurses and nursing students as part of the APVV and VEGA projects. The questionnaire focused on the essential characteristics of the respondents and staffing approaches in hospitals in Slovakia. Data were obtained from a survey of 752 hospital nurses and 423 university nursing students. The statistical analysis consisted of factor and correspondence analysis. The findings highlight the factors influencing the migratory sentiments of nursing students and working hospital nurses. They are organization of work, staff remuneration, employee benefits, workroom equipment, shortage of nurses, bureaucracy, communication and relations with colleagues, superiors, and patients, training and career development, material and spatial security, instrumentation, digitization of work, the prestige of the medical profession, and current situation in the Slovak Republic.
The paper identifies and evaluates groups of push factors of migration intentions – satisfaction/dissatisfaction with hospital working conditions. The results of the factor analysis indicate that such factors as material and spatial security, communication and relations with colleagues, work organization, lack of personnel, bureaucracy, the prestige of the medical profession, and the current situation in Slovakia affect their working conditions and pleasure.Acknowledgment

Views: 325 Downloads: 68 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThe study aims to investigate the relationships between the volume of net migration and the economic development of individual European countries, which will make it possible to forecast the level of GDP and strengthen their migration policy. Correlation-regression analysis was used based on statistical data from Eurostat and the State Statistics Service of Ukraine for the period 2014−2021 for selected European countries (the EU-27 member states, Switzerland, and Ukraine). The correlation-regression analysis showed a relationship between the volume of net migration and the level of GDP. The linear correlation equations forecasted the value of the GDP level depending on the influence of a single factor – the volume of net migration. The attention is focused on the importance of migration, which ensures economic growth for Poland. It is attractive due to a simpler mechanism for moving immigrants than in other EU-27 countries, ease of language learning and easier adaptation, territorial proximity, and a higher standard of living compared to neighboring countries that were part of the Soviet Union. Thus, an increase in net migration to Poland by 1% will lead to an increase in gross domestic product by 1.43 million euros. Due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, net migration from Ukraine to Poland has increased significantly, potentially increasing Poland’s GDP in 2023 by 0.08% or 529.54 million euros.

Trade creation and export diversion: Thailand’s plastic and rubber under the ASEAN-China free trade agreement
Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 22, 2024 Issue #1 pp. 619-633
Views: 380 Downloads: 180 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThis study aims to investigate the impact of the ASEAN-China free trade agreement on plastic and rubber trading, focusing on trade creation and export diversion. The collected data include 11 intra-bloc countries and 23 extra-bloc countries from 1990 to 2021, analyzed using STATA17. The gravity model is applied to the international trade framework. First, the unit root test is used to confirm the stationary nature of the data. Then, the methods are compared, employing fixed effects and a robust Poisson maximum likelihood estimator. The bilateral dummy variables are used to estimate the directional impact of trade agreements on export volume. The result demonstrates that the ASEAN-China free trade agreement establishes trade creation and export diversion. It has had a positive impact on the export value of plastic and rubber in Thailand over the past 30 years, but in terms of trade creation is less than export diversion. This means that exporting plastic and rubber to extra-bloc countries will gain more benefits than trading with member countries under the ASEAN-China free trade agreement. However, trading under the ASEAN-China free trade agreement may continue, but export volumes of plastic and rubber will decline. According to the findings, it can be suggested that Thailand’s government has to have a comparative advantage in product and strong competitiveness. Meanwhile, the ASEAN-China free trade agreement should not only focus on trade tariffs but also improve customs clearance to reduce trade costs.

Views: 488 Downloads: 93 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThis study aims to examine the link between human resource management practices and employee outcomes (job satisfaction and burnout) in Jordan’s healthcare public sector, including recruitment and selection, training and development, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee relations, and health and safety. The study utilized a stratified random sample of 600 healthcare professionals. The sample included doctors, nurses, administrative staff, and support staff from various public sector healthcare facilities across Jordan. The use of the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire allowed for a detailed assessment of burnout prevalence and levels of job satisfaction among these professionals. The results revealed a high burnout prevalence of over 98%, particularly in emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal achievement. Variances in burnout levels were observed across professional roles, with doctors experiencing high burnout. Job satisfaction was moderately reported, negatively correlating with age and experience. Increased emotional exhaustion and depersonalization were linked to reduced satisfaction. Noteworthy HRM practices contributing to increased job satisfaction included employee relations and health and safety. Conversely, compensation and benefits and employee relations contributed to reduced burnout.

Views: 291 Downloads: 73 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯInnovations have become pivotal for the growth and competitiveness of national economies. Generating innovations necessitates a comprehensive ecosystem as a set of conducive conditions. With competition intensifying and focusing on innovation, countries increasingly prioritize the enhancement of their innovation ecosystems. The foundation for this lies in international comparisons, particularly among countries that are global leaders, as it aids in identifying their specific characteristics and advantages. The aim of the study is to differentiate the innovation ecosystems of world-leading countries by highlighting the indicators in which they differ the most.
The paper covered the top 15 countries according to the Global Innovation Index, each characterized by 23 indicators in their innovation ecosystems. In the first stage, using mathematical processing (the k-means method), the countries were divided into six clusters. Then, to find the parameters that differentiate the obtained clusters, a classification analysis was conducted (the “decision tree” method), resulting in 11 indicators that, in various pairwise combinations, most differentiate the analyzed countries. These indicators reflect the features and most important advantages (or weaknesses) of each innovation ecosystem and are also priorities for increasing the parameters of these ecosystems to improve the position of countries. It is advisable to use these indicators to form state innovation policy. -

Views: 222 Downloads: 56 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯApart from physical health problems, the COVID-19 outbreak also affected psychological health, causing extreme fear of this pandemic. Thus, this study aims to investigate the relationship between nurse performance and the fear of COVID-19 mediated by job insecurity and job satisfaction with conservation of resources theory as the lens. Data from 260 nurses were collected through an online structured questionnaire and analyzed using structural equation modeling-partial least squares. The direct effect findings show that COVID-19 fear influences job insecurity (p < 0.05) but does not influence job satisfaction and nurse performance (p > 0.05). Besides, job insecurity significantly influences job satisfaction and nurse performance (p < 0.05). On the other hand, job satisfaction has no effect on nurse performance (p > 0.05). Then, the indirect effect results show that job insecurity fully mediates the influence of COVID-19 fear on job satisfaction and nurse performance (p < 0.05). Likewise, job satisfaction partially mediates the influence of job insecurity on nurse performance (p < 0.05) but does not mediate the fear of COVID-19 on nurse performance (p > 0.05). These findings provide evidence that the fear of COVID-19 plays an essential role for job insecurity, influencing job satisfaction and nurse performance. These results can develop strategies for better human resource management in nursing staff and provide pragmatic insight into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Strategic orientations – market, technology, service, and learning – are investigated as key dimensions guiding firms’ strategic decisions amidst dynamic business environments. A comprehensive survey involving 100 companies representing a diverse spectrum of the Indonesian manufacturing sector is conducted. These companies encompass a range of statuses, including joint ventures (12%), multinational companies (2%), and national companies (86%). Through a purposive sampling strategy, representation across different company types is ensured to capture the breadth of perspectives within the industry. The quantitative approach involves surveying managers across various organizational levels, including top-level executives, middle managers, and front-line supervisors. Input from different managerial tiers is solicited to understand strategic orientations and their impact on firm performance. Data analysis, employing validation, descriptive statistics in MS Excel, and inferential statistics using Smart PLS yields significant insights. Market, service, and learning orientations emerge as influential factors in both basic and advanced services (p < 0.05), while technology orientation lacks statistical significance. Notably, market orientation significantly impacts advanced services (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the findings underscore the significant influence of service provision on firm performance across both basic and advanced services (p < 0.05). The critical role of strategic orientations, encompassing technology adoption, market positioning, service delivery, and organizational learning, in driving servitization and enhancing firm performance in Indonesian manufacturing is emphasized.

Views: 451 Downloads: 193 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThe study aims to examine the financial efficiency of the textile and clothing industries in Portugal using official statistical data. The main objective is to assess the relationship between spending on research and development and return on assets. The study analyzes the performance of various subsectors of the textile and clothing industries, presenting the relationship between investments in research and development and the operating return on assets over various economic periods. The study adopted data envelopment analysis, classifying decision-making units based on average efficiency levels. The results highlight sectors of manufacture of textiles for technical and industrial use, manufacture of other textiles, production of outerwear, and manufacture of workwear as the most efficient. In contrast, sectors of manufacture of clothing and accessories, manufacture of knitwear, and leather clothing show lower levels of efficiency. From 2003 to 2022, the textile industry exhibited the highest levels of financial efficiency, with an above-average ratio between spending on research and development and return on assets. However, sectors of knitwear manufacturing and textile finishing have maintained a more or less constant level of financial efficiency. The analysis highlights the need for targeted interventions to increase the financial efficiency of different subsectors within the textile and clothing industries. It is evident that there are varying levels of financial efficiency across these sectors, and the need for benchmarking periods can help identify areas for improvement and set achievable goals.

These respondents were selected as they had a clear ability for a deeper dive into strategic goals and international expansion strategies, effectiveness in capacities, and daily financial management improvement. The results showed that with the use of business intelligence tools, organizations were in a better position to provide a higher quality of strategic decision-making (p < 0.01) as it helped in the functioning of new opportunities to identify and capitalize, while keeping an eye on the current capabilities. The study underscores that organizational ambidexterity is one of the most dominant causes (p < 0.01) for the effective realization of the benefits of business intelligence. Thus, for effective decision-making, it is crucial for organizations to synergize business intelligence tools with their ambidextrous capabilities. This underscores the significant role of organizational ambidexterity as a moderator and further demonstrates its importance in optimizing the use of business intelligence to improve strategic decision-making processes.

The expert sample included 38 representatives of relevant authorities, scientists, NGOs, and volunteer organizations from 11 Ukrainian regions. The survey was conducted using the online questionnaire method via Google Forms. The results show the low participation of IDPs in most political and civil activities in new communities. The level of social integration according to these criteria is, respectively, 3.0 and 3.2 points out of 6 possible. At the same time, the level of economic integration (3.7 points) and integration into cultural and sports initiatives (3.6 points) are comparatively high, which are a feature illustrating the readiness to be involved in some kinds of activities in a new community. A significant result is also the fact that according to most signs of social integration, in the evaluations of experts, there are assessments of the activity of IDPs at a level that exceeds the activity of residents (6 points). Such results indicate the existence of a resource for developing communities due to the use of the potential of IDPs. This is especially characteristic of activities in counteraction to russian aggression, involvement in grant and project activities, search for opportunities for legal income, and support of social justice principles in labor relations.
